Kajal came running with her cheerful smile. She remembered the movie and discussion about menstruation that Kena had facilitated in class. She said “Good morning didi, you showed a movie about periods and we discussed around it. In the class I didn’t ask any questions. But when I went home in the holidays I shared about the class with my mother, sister and my friends in the village.”
When Kena asked kajal what she had shared here is what she said. With a little hesitation in the beginning, Kajal narrated her interactions with a new found confidence “I shared with them that we had a class on periods in the school. With surprise in their eyes they asked “do they really have classes on this in schools? They must be mad.” I said “no they share lots of information. You all use cloth, it’s not bad but you should use it properly, wash it regularly with detergent and dry it under the sun so that it will not catch bacteria. You should take bath regularly during periods, it’s very important to maintain hygiene.”
Kajal quickly scampered away to play with her friends, leaving a big smile on Kena’s face.
